The DeLorean at Birthday Parties, Halloween Events, and Private Parties: It Never Gets Old

Kids lose their minds. Adults who grew up watching the movies just go quiet for a second and then start grinning. I've seen it a hundred times and it still gets me every time.

The review that stuck with me the most was from a guy who rented the DeLorean for his husband's 50th birthday. He said his husband, who knew nothing about it, walked outside and literally put his hand over his mouth.

That's the whole thing, right there.

Birthday Parties

Milestone birthdays are probably the most common private booking I do — 40s, 50s, 60s. The generation that grew up with Back to the Future is in that range now, and showing up in a DeLorean Time Machine as a birthday surprise is legitimately unforgettable.

I've had people in tears. I've had people sprint across a parking lot. I've had a 55-year-old man immediately start quoting the movie at me the second the gull-wing doors opened. Every single one of them.

For kids' birthdays, it's a different kind of magic — they know the car even if they've only seen the movies on Netflix. Sitting in the driver's seat, "pressing" the time circuits, pretending to go back to 1985. The photos are incredible and the kids talk about it for months.

Halloween

Halloween is when the DeLorean feels most at home. There's something about the aesthetic — the lights, the electronics, the pure weirdness of the car — that fits Halloween perfectly. I do a lot of neighborhood Halloween events and haunted house activations this time of year.

I had a Halloween display rental last fall where a family set up the DeLorean in their front yard as the centerpiece of a full Back to the Future-themed setup. Kids showed up in costume, parents crowded around it, and apparently the line stretched down the block. One of the families sent me photos for weeks.

Surprise Parties and Other Private Events

The surprise element is something I love about private bookings. The host knows, everyone's in on it except the guest of honor, and the moment the car pulls up is pure gold. I arrive at the time we coordinate, and we time it so it lines up with the reveal.

A few things from experience: outdoor or garage spaces work best so there's room for people to gather around. And if you're planning a surprise, keep the group small enough that it actually stays a surprise — the bigger the crowd, the harder that is to pull off.

What's Included

Same as every booking: I come with the car, full prop package, all effects running. You're not renting just a car — you're getting the whole experience. For private parties I'm typically on-site for 2-4 hours, which gives everyone plenty of time with it.

If you've got an event coming up and you're wondering whether the DeLorean makes sense for it — it does. Reach out and we'll figure out the details.
